Minnesota eagle lauded at grand encampment parade

Portland Maine June 24 The Minnesota Eagle drew the loudest applause during the grand Army of the Republic encampment parade. Veterans and citizens praised the pageant noting the Minnesota unit’s live eagle and the veteran rider as highlights. Massachusetts Rhode Island and Illinois posts received high marks for uniforms banners and appearance.

Murder at Antioch church ends in fatal stabbing feud

Information from a courier reports a shocking murder at Antioch church, thirty miles south of Etravia, where Wiley E. Vining was killed by his brother in law Lott Ashley after services. Ashley fled on a horse as a $200 reward is posted, with Governor ONeal expected to raise the bounty. Vining is buried at Hardwickerburg after the tragedy.

President Adams Urges Honest Commission on Rates

June 25 in Outana, Charles Francis Adams of Union Pacific told the Senate Interstate Commerce Committee his views on a proposed commission. He backed a commission with no new powers and favored ending rate publication in some cases to curb pooling effects while noting competition cannot be fully governed by law. The Pacific is giving away no less than 000 worth of something daily.
