The Man Who Shot a Woman Pleads for Life in Jail Lynching

Vincennes Indiana June 24. Oliver Canfield the young man who shot Mrs Mollie Gherkin on June 17 faced an angry crowd at the jail. A mob battered the doors and hanged Canfield at a telegraph pole after he claimed guilt and pleaded for mercy. The victim died Monday. Canfield was 22 and had worked in coal mines.

Nihilists Strike Again in St Petersburgh

A telegram from Odessa reports Capt. Gerdzey of the gendarmerie killed by Nihilists. His body bore a bullet wound and a dagger in the heart, with a note to confirm the motive. Police seek secrecy as details are scarce. Gerdzey fought Nihilism and earned their hatred, sparking national shock. Separately, Edwin Harrison of Cheatian Harrigan Yale is said to have failed, amid rumors of his inheritance of over 1.5 million dollars.
