David Belasco recovered a $16,000 judgment against N. K. Fairbank of Chicago for training actress Leslie Carter for the stage. Interest at 5 percent from 1890 was allowed. Fairbank sought a new trial, denied. Trial lasted three weeks. Fairbank claimed no debt and countered for $53,000.
New York June 24 Mrs Alice Fleming was found not guilty of murdering her mother Mrs Bliss by poisoning chowder after an eight week sensational trial. An $80 000 estate awaited Fleming upon her mother’s death. Letters to a male admirer were among the evidence read amid large crowds and a panic caused by a Monday morning crash.
A four day summer convention of the American Association of Physicians and Surgeons opened in Burrago New York. The group includes 250 members and will run through June 28 with sessions this afternoon.
