Shrober well in Koxono Indiana tops gas belt output

In Koxono Indiana on June 24 workers developed what is described as the largest gas well in the Indiana gas belt. Well No 5 known as the Shrober well near the courthouse reached 912 feet with gas and dust shooting from the pipe, forcing a halt until repairs and drilling resumed. Experts call it king of Indiana wells and note superior quality gas. Two large factories contracted for brick locally, signaling rapid industrial growth.

State printing fund balance and contractor fees detailed

State expert valuation estimates total $82,722 with $24,000 payment by the state and an unexpended printing fund balance of $9,172. Attorneys for the contractors include Gross and Broadwell, Orendorff and Patton, and Patton and Hamilton. The attorney general is expected to present the case for the state.

Explosion in Susquehanna mine kills four at Nanticoke

A June 24 explosion in slope No 4 of Susquehanna Coal Co in Nanticoke Pa killed three men outright and mortally injured another. Four dead or dying victims were removed, with two more expected to die. Miners fled to the scene as gas and smoke filled the shaft, and witnesses described horrific injuries.
