St Louis June 17. The Republican national convention opened with formal ceremonies and no speeches. G W Fairbanks of Indianapolis delivered a forceful address condemning the current administration as delegates announced committee picks. The day focused on McKinley Morton rumors and gold standard pledges amid factional tensions.
