Embezzler Captured in Oregon Landed in Sail

A. B. Shantz, who fled South Dakota after missing bail on embezzlement charges, has been extradited from Albany, Oregon to face circuit court. Sheriff Teeters reports his capture and confinement in jail amid a broader Northwest crisis involving missing township funds. Eugene Heath, Hartland school treasurer, is suspected of misappropriating about 400 dollars, taking wool sale proceeds, and withdrawing nearly 500 dollars from local bank deposits. Ernest Warren is believed to have fled with him.

Saloon closings shut Tacoma businesses Sunday

Tacoma, Washington, June 16. Following prosecutions by the Anti Sunday Saloon association, all saloons were closed Sunday and many businesses stayed shut under the Sunday closing law. Only undertakers, livery stables, and certain exempt services remained open, while hotels could not feed crowds that formerly dined at restaurants.

New Freight Rate Cut Shrinks 85 Cent First Class Tariff
