Chicago June 1. Northwestern roads debated Chicago to St Paul through rates. A proposal to abolish fixed proportions and adopt percentage divisions failed. Officials favored turning St Paul and Dakota traffic to Lake Superior lines, evaluating it as a Chicago loss but Northwest gain. Conference to continue. Wisconsin Central appoints in Milwaukee on June 15.
The appointment names a new general manager and G Campbell as general superintendent. A. A. Allen, previously general superintendent of Wisconsin Central, resigns and is assigned as general manager of the Chicago and Great Western with headquarters in Chicago.
Harrisburg reports a governor issued a proclamation detailing ongoing relief for Conemaugh valley flood victims. Supplies flow freely and donors are thanked. emphasis on using funds to build board shanties and provide shelter, with lumber offers from the West and distribution through Gen. Hastings of Johnstown.

In Austin Texas on June 15 four white men and two black men were killed and several others shot during a melee at Givens store eighteen miles southeast of the city. The disturbance began when an black constable attempted to arrest a white man charged with horse stealing and resisted. A sheriff's posse has departed for the scene.
Mora Minnesota June 15 reports say no new news from Mille Lacs lake beyond a white messenger noting Indians will drive settlers away that night. Chief James Chesley seeks withdrawal of troops while some settlers urge immediate dispatch to quell decades of tension with emigrants. Magnusen shot, hospital in St Cloud, with scant other injuries. Troops and press depart Mora to reach the lake amid reports of drunken Indian gatherings and hostile threats.
