In Ocotaco June 14 report William J. Bryan and Democratic National Committee Chair Ja m s K Jones outline the party platform. They identify money imperialism and trusts as top issues and affirm the Chicago platform while adding new points. Mack seeks Coler’s removal while Coler defends the bid as proper under a court decision and says papers are open to inspection and asks for a hearing.
Sherman C Patterson president of the St Louis street railwaymen union was stabbed in the neck during a heated strike argument. Edward Canty and Lewis Doebler argued with him before Canty stabbed him. Patterson died shortly after at the city hospital. Canty was arrested.
Washington officials announce salary increases for about 5000 clerks averaging 100 dollars per year. No first class clerk will fall below 600 dollars annually, with some new hires at 500 dollars. More offices will be raised in rank, and relegations to lower ratings will be fewer than before.
Anoka Minnesota June 14. Sheriff Merrill says additional arrests will follow in the Wise murder case. He is tracking at least two suspects between St. Cloud and Brainerd and a fourth resident of Anoka is also under suspicion. A traveler overheard the men use the term Swede triggering the inquiry into their involvement.
The Navy Department has prepared a circular calling for bids to supply armor plate and will issue it after minor typographical changes. For the first time armor is to be classified by grade, allowing savings by distinguishing different grades as prices rise.
A treasury transport Burnside delivers one million dollars in gold and silver to Porto Rico on June 14. Funds drawn from the local sub treasury, this marks the second shipment to the new territory. Readjustments in its monetary system are guided by Washington experts as the currency replaces Spanish coin.

A London dispatch says the empress dowager’s purge of the tsung h uamen and dismissal of Prince Ching unites European powers to restore Pekin order. Russian troops may be used, and a 2000 Marine force could prove insufficient if the Boxers hold Pekin and the rebellion spreads provinces.
Six men were killed and another fatally injured when a logging road train jumped the track near Cammal, Lycoming County. Engineer McGilvary and Fireman English died on impact along with four Italian laborers. the wreck utterly destroyed the cars and engine. The victims included T F Schuyler the Justice of the Peace and workers Frank Carson Jello Dem James Ree Memon. The three local residents of Cammal were among the deceased.
Washington report states Neely's re Tally of Cuban postal funds will reach at least $75,000. The total missing amount from $400,000 in stamps ordered destroyed remains unknown without confessions. Some stamps reportedly sold to collectors and others reissued after destruction orders.
In Lovtmsville on June 14 a resolution is to be offered in the Kentucky Democratic convention. Senator Blackburn reportedly will urge Governor Beckham to call an extra session to repeal the Goebel election law. No formal statement has been made by Blackburn.
San Diego Cal June 14 Mrs Gardingo the oldest Mission Indian in the county has died aged 110. She joined the Catholic faith through Mission fathers and remained a Methodist member. Her age is recorded in the church record.
Curiaco June 14 Edwin G Cooley elected by the Chicago board of education to succeed Dr E Benjamin Andrews as superintendent. Cooley currently serves as superintendent of the Chicago normal school.
A man on upper Eighteenth Street at 11 30 p m tells a police officer he is home early to avoid his wife’s threat to return to her mother. The exchange ends with the officer walking away whistling a tune from the Washington Post style brief.
At a New York dinner honoring Daniel Webster guests included Dr. Benjamin Brandreth the pill inventor. Mr Evarts united the two men in a volunteer toast praising Daniel Webster and Benjamin Brandreth as pillars of the constitution.
