Northwestern Collision Kills Engineer as Governor Injured

Des Motes June 12. About 9 oclock a Chicago and Northwestern regular passenger train pulling out for Ames collided near the station with a coming in special train. Engineer Thomas Smith was killed. Other engine men escaped unharmed. No passengers seriously hurt. Governor Shaw on the outgoing train received a temple cut and arm bruise but could go home and resume his journey soon. Mrs B F Jones of Ames was slightly hurt.

Fern Gets a Share in Prize Money at Santiago Battle

The Court of Claims ruled the crew of the US steamship Fern is entitled to a prize money share from the destruction of Cervera's fleet. The Fern was within signalling distance and able to order aid during the battle. The case was contested by Admiral Sampson's attorneys and others.

Sheriff to Seek Extradition for W. S. Taylor

In Frankfort Kentucky on June 12 Sheriff Satter met with Commonwealth's Attorney Franklin and stated a requisition for the extradition of W. S. Taylor will be sought but he will be too busy to travel to Indianapolis for seven days. Indiana Attorney General Taylor, visiting, says Governor Moang will not honor the requisition.
