House gridlock on ocean survey item delays final adjournment

Washington June 7 The two houses fought over the ocean survey provision in the naval appropriation bill with heads down and horns locked. The House rejected the conference report after a fiery debate led by Mr Cannon about Commander Todd and the navy hydrographer’s campaign against the coast and geodetic survey. Conferees Cannon Moody and Shafroth favored the House position and pledged resistance until directed otherwise.

Charges of Robbery and Corruption Hit Senate

Washington June 7 The senate failed to agree on the naval appropriation bill and rejected a house amendment for a government armor plate factory. After hours of debate the Penrose proposal was adopted 39 to 35 amid bitter exchanges and accusations of robbery and political corruption. The chamber adjourned to 11 am.
