South Africa to become self governing colonies

The Tribune notes that after the war the two Dutch republics will be annexed by Britain and governed temporarily, then given self governing status. A future commonwealth bill would grant local autonomy similar to Canada and Australia, with the Dutch majority shaping the confederation. Population figures show more British than Dutch at outbreak.

Not Less Than Five Hundred Arrive at Minneapolis During May

May saw at least 500 foreigners arrive in Minneapolis from overseas with about 100 stopping here. Most newcomers were Scandinavian while Italians Finns Austrians Bohemians Germans Russians Turks and French accounted for another 50 percent. Finns moved to Kokato and Franklin settlements. This week at least 100 immigrants arrived including five Arabs who went to Duluth for mining work. Over half of the total headed to Montana.

Western lines fail to agree on pooling all Grand Army business between Chicago and St Paul and between Chicago and Kansas City Leavenworth Atchison and St Joseph.
