Arkansas River steamer sinks with crew losses at Van Buren

Stage Hold Up by Masked Men Detonates Treasure Box

Masked robbers halted the Billings and Great Falls stage on Painted Robe hill nine miles south of the Mussel Shell river. They seized the treasure box and mail sacks, shot one horse, but did not molest passengers who were allowed to continue on with the remaining horses as a sheriff’s posse hurried from Billings after the coach’s arrival.
