Francis Truth, a Boston alleged divine healer, appeared in U S circuit court and pleaded guilty to seven indictments after withdrawing his earlier not guilty plea. The case involves accusations tied to his healing scam and related charges.

A U.S. marshal was killed and three desperadoes mortally wounded and captured during a fight on the Arkansas river about 40 miles east of Glencoe Oklahoma Territory. The outlaws had stolen a herd of cattle and were moving toward a railroad station when overtaken. Both sides used Winchesters and Colt pistols. The marshal died at the start. the outlaw leader fell next. after nearly an hour the last outlaw was shot down. No one is expected to survive among the outlaws. If any recover they will be moved to the Pawnee federal jail.
Mining for iron ore begins this week at Michipicoten the new Lake Superior ore region. Shipments and mining move beyond experimental stage as six to seven hundred men are sought immediately. The Algona Central Company has opened the mines built a railway and docks and imported steel ships from Europe in under a year.
Adjutant General Lambert releases Captain Eva telegram from Ket tle Falls dated July 5. Eva says Harding left at 6 10 am Wednesday and delays near rapids with boat aground. They arrived July 4 at 12 30 pm and depart. Indians continue dancing but refrain from demonstrations or obeying the agent’s orders to return home.
In the American League games Buffalo beat Chicago 4 1 Cleveland defeated Milwaukee 4 0 Detroit routed Kansas City 9 0 Indianapolis edged Minneapolis 4 3. In the National League St Louis beat Boston 3 0 Pittsburg downed Brooklyn 2 0 Chicago won 5 2 at New York Cincinnati triumphed 5 2. The Republican state central committee met at Columbus and elected Charles W Dick Akron as chairman John R Malloy Columbus secretary and W F Burdell Columbus treasurer marking Dick’s retirement from the national committee.
The World reports a conspiracy by Spanish and Cuban conspirators with New York ties to kill President McKinley. A warning letter led to investigations by B B Odell and Charles Dick, with Hanna denying the charge as false in later dispatches. Special detectives guard Canton. the Cleveland dispatch denies the story.
