A Kind Act Rewarded by a Sailor’s Kinship
In Philadelphia two years ago a penniless sailor William Allanton asked for shelter and a drink from bartender J. T. Bauer. Bauer helped him and learned he was Henry Allanton of a landed estate in Hagish. The elder Allanton died. the younger inherited the estate and sent Bauer $6,000 as thanks. Earlier, Bauer also aided a railway laborer named Stanton who later returned to England and reconciled with his family. A separate report from Brooklyn notes a boiler explosion on the tug Niagara at the dock at foot of One Street, injuring none reported.
