Floating Palace America launches on Clyde at Thompson yard

The new America steamer of the National Lint Line, built on the Clyde, measures about 450 feet by 51 feet with 85 feet 6 inches hold, 6000 tons gross. Eleven watertight bulkheads protect engine spaces. speed rated at 21 knots. Passenger capacity 800 with grand saloon spanning 51 feet under a glass dome, music room, ladies boudoir, two saloons, smoking room, wine parlor, and electric lighting throughout. Steerage accommodations described as ample, airy, well-lit and ventilated.

Six coal barges break loose at O'Neil's elevator

At Louisville Kentucky on December 31 six loaded coal barges and a shanty boat broke loose from O'Neil's elevator and floated downstream. Three barges lodged below the bridge with a loss estimated at six thousand dollars. Life savers rescued two men a wife and child from the shanty boat at the head of the falls and were praised for their bravery.

Gun accident kills 18 year old in Lexington

In Lexington Kentucky on December 31 Jonn Farra was fooling with a gun when it discharged killing Jessie Bryant aged 18 and tearing off her head.
