Who Holds Up the Flag in a Style They Despise

An 8 G W Benjamin report recounts a June incident near Teheran where Royal guard troops attacked the minister and his daughter in a carriage as Shah’s wives rode with them. The escort was beaten, horses restrained, and the minister’s party eventually escaped with two outriders, one man injured. the guard officers were punished after a later apology.

Cadet dies in accidental shooting at Oxford Military Academy

In Barimrorn Maryland a 17 year old cadet Richard Reinhard at the Oxford Military Academy was accidentally shot in his room by fellow cadet Patrick Gavagan of Michigan. Gavagan aimed a revolver not knowing a cartridge remained. the shell fired and Reinhard died within minutes. Reinhard’s body to be embalmed and sent to El Paso for burial. Also noted are reports from El Paso of Apache massacres and a comet discovery by Warner Observatory.

Modjeska’s Son Marries Cousin in New York Ceremony

Ralph Modjeska son of actress Mme Modjeska and his cousin Wile Telice Benda wed at St Stanislaus Church with Archbishop Corrigan and Father Kleinecske officiating. The ceremony featured Polish knights guards, a flower strewn path, and a wedding breakfast at Delmonico’s. Afterwards the couple depart for New Orleans then Denver as their future home.

Explaining a Question of Bounty in Washington

Washington City reports that the second comptroller's decision on bounty payments to soldiers discharged for promotion has been misunderstood. The April 22, 1872 act promised $100 to those enlisted before July 22, 1861 and mustered before Aug 6, 1861. The decision aligns discharges for promotion with honorably discharged status, overturning rule 2. The piece also notes a plan in Congress to rename the government for Chicago's 1892 international exposition.

In a Sunday interview City December 29 Sparks asserts the president is satisfied with land office management. He denies widespread over ruling of his decisions by the interior secretary and claims western complaints stem from land fraud interests and editors and lawyers affected by his methods. He cites a western journal article printed on office paper of a large firm.

The Tories propose a decentralised Irish administration with elective divisions empowered to handle municipal and county expenditures under state veto. Property representation retained, small local boards wiped out, and borrowing powers supervised by the imperial treasury.
