London endures a dismal Christmas as a rapid thaw, then renewed ice and fog cripple movement. The week’s mortality is expected to reach unprecedented levels with influenza killing thousands and the aged and ill suffering most.
Paris on December 26 reports the arrest of Lieutenant Anastay a retired army officer on suspicion of murdering Baroness d Ellard on December 4 in her apartment saloon at 42 Boulevard du Temple near Place de La Concorde. The 72 year old widow and former cuirassier colonel’s widow was respected in the neighborhood.

Miss Virginia E. Grant a niece of General A. J. Grant married Walter Hunt Turner at the home of her mother Mrs. Virginia Grant Corbin in Orange New Jersey. The ceremony was a quiet family affair with Turner newly a resident of New York City.

An East Tennessee railroad southbound train derailed in a cut near Williams station after rails spread. Seventeen passengers were injured, none seriously, and four coaches were wrecked as the train neared a deep fill at the cut’s edge.
A large Christmas gathering at R. A. Batty’s Nebraska home ended badly when Batty dressed as Santa Claus had his wool costume ignite. Hillsboro N D Dec 26 The Hillsboro Banner says Traill county real estate and chattel mortgage indebtedness has fallen by 361000 since November 1. Also noted are rapid preparations for the International League of Press Clubs first annual convention in San Francisco January 14 with Eastern delegates leaving January 6. Journalists in the U S and Europe are invited as guests of the league.
The Cincinnati Post hosted a large Christmas festival for the city's poor children. About five thousand youngsters received dinner at Music Hall, each getting a candy box and a useful gift. The Post contributed five thousand dollars to cover expenses.
At Bronsville Texas on December 26 reports claim Garza tried to seize Fort Ringgold after a bandit was pursued by Mexican troops near Camargo. Guards went to meet him but learned the attackers were Mexican regulars. Fort Ringgold remained under arms as rumors of Mexican officers joining Garza and a revolt circulated.
