Counterfeit Gold Coins Arrests Reported in California
Special Agent N. R. Harris wires from Stockton that J. O. Scott was arrested for passing counterfeit gold half eagles and R. A. Maddux for possessing counterfeit gold eagles. One hundred eleven coins were found with Maddux, a Portville, California merchant. The coins dated 1886 look new and were struck from the same die.
