Profit Sharing Causes Non-Union Firing in New York
A Fourteenth Street builder, Lewis H Williams, shared profits with both union and non union workers and reduced hours without wage cuts. After the Building Trades union demanded discharge of non union men and uniform wages, Williams’s workers voted to stay on profit share, and a walking delegate led all his crews to be ordered out. So far 3 of 145 workers left.

Powderly Orders Knights to Stop Money Collections
Grand Master Powderly of the Knights of Labor orders district assemblies Nos. 24 and 57 to end internal bickerings and to refrain from collecting funds for condemned anarchists. He urges caution in politics, favors independent action, and requires funds already raised to be returned to the contributing members. Indiana Knights of Labor convenes to form a state assembly with officers named and politics discussed. A legislating note condemns attempts by Democrats to block Knight Mackey’s seat and opposes both major parties courting KOI support. A separate report from South Carolina notes an adverse committee ruling against a bill prohibiting negro assemblies by the Knights of Labor.
