A Reign of Terror as Gas Explosions Strike Rochester

Rochester roared with a chain of gas explosions starting at the Jefferson and Clinton mills on Mill Street. Fire swept Washington and Whitney mills as manholes blew open and crowds fled. Officials say naptha leaks from a broken pipe fed the fires. casualties listed include several deaths feared and at least twenty injured. Damages run into tens of thousands with extensive insurance figures for each mill.

Train collision near Davenport injures crew

A sudden crash as an eastbound Davenport passenger train collided with a westbound train. Engineeer Loup and fireman Crapnigan were trapped in wreckage and died after over three hours of rescue. Baggagemen on both trains were badly injured. fault attributed to the late westbound conductor.

Convention to frame a constitution for statehood
