An unsuccessful attempt to wreck the Illinois Central fast mail train from New Orleans to Chicago was made near Alma, 288 miles from Chicago. Six four foot fishplate irons were placed on a steep embankment and the train struck them at 65 mph. one plate split in two. The engine stayed on track. Motive appears to be robbery.
Norman Selby known as Kid McCoy defeats Dan Creedon of New Zealand at Puritana club Long Island City after 15 rounds. McCoy dominates with superior science reach and height advantage, crowd bets favored him at the start, and his win cements his claim to world middleweight honors.

Sioux Falls Dec 18 Governor Lee agrees to raise 1000 dollars for the state railway commission. The commission has 650 dollars on hand to cover attorney fees, now redirected to expenses as the lawyers wait.
