In New York on Wednesday about seventy men gathered under the Anti Monopoly league to discuss silver. Hon Edwards Pierrepont presided and argued silver’s稳定 value par with gold. Whitmer of Richmond Near Death in Missouri
David Whitmer, a founder of the Mormon church and longtime Richmond resident, lies at death's door in Missouri. Born in Pennsylvania, he claimed to witness the plates and participated in the translation of the Book of Mormon. Whitmer, who opposed polygamy, has served as mayor and councilman and reportedly owns the original manuscript.

Fatal House Fire Kills 9-Year-Old Mamie Baker
In St. Louis on December 18 a fatal accident occurred at Mrs. Bakers residence on Laclede Avenue. Mamie Baker, a nine year old girl, stood with her back to a grate when her dress caught fire. Her mother and sister tried to extinguish the flames but could not prevent severe burns. She died at 2 o clock after hours of agony.

Beav er Creek mine fight leaves three dead
In Somerset on December 18 a work dispute at Beaver Creek mines escalated to a free fight. Three miners were shot and stabbed to death, including Frank Wilson who was killed by a man named Parsons. W A Owens and Charles Gooden were arrested on charges connected to the deaths, Parsons escaped.
