Washington December 16 The Senate passed the foreign relations committee bill prohibiting pelagic sealing by Americans by a vote of 87 to 14 amid a sharp debate led by Pettiroglos S D who urged stopping the seal business by killing seals at Prybiloff islands if Great Britain fails to agree by June. The session also debated Klondike relief and census director plans.
The secretary of the interior rejected Northern Pacific railroad’s request to suspend land entry adjudication between Duluth Minnesota and Ashland Wisconsin. The company contends Ashland is the terminus while the department had ruled the eastern terminus was at Duluth. The decision states there is not enough reason to pause adjudication work.
Washieron Dec 16 Senator Wolcott to explain to the senate and the country his Europe mission as head of the bimetallic commission in a forthcoming speech. He will speak in response to Senator Allen's resolution calling for a full report from the commission.
Washington December 16 The House Judiciary Committee has agreed on a bankruptcy bill and will report to the House as soon as possible. Chairman Henderson was authorized to report the Senate bill known as the Nelson bill with enacting clause stricken out, and the Henderson bill inserted as substitute.
