Seven Persons Missing and Believed the Have Perished The Cook

Fast Towns Mich Dec 14 The terrible suffering endured by the crew and passengers of the wrecked propelier Oconto which went ashore on Charity island Lake Huron last Sunday rivals fiction. First mate Charles Reardon and steward David Leary risked their lives to save companions as they waited for aid. A yawl from the barge Joseph was used to reach land after a three hour trek through a blizzard. Thirty two on the island, two prostrated from nervous excitement and one cook dead from fright. The Oconto left Oscoda Friday with two women and twenty five crew amid a hurricane and snowstorm. Fire on the cook galley was extinguished but a cook died of fright. Rescue crews prepare to reach the wreck at daybreak.

Robbery at Godfrey Kabler steam bakery in Philadelphia

Masked burglars attacked the watchman Nathan Whiteside at the Godfrey Kabler steam bakery on North Twenty second Street between midnight and 1 am. They bound him, drilled the safe, and stole about $500, checks, and opera glasses before fleeing about 4 am. A second guard later found him. two detectives were assigned to the case.
