A pension office list of about 60 000 veterans and widows will be used along with prints of 1 600 000 names as a target though survivors and widows may fall short. Superintendent Porter aims to add military records but finds it impracticable.
Sacramento Cal Dec 12 heavy rains pushed the Sacramento River over twenty six feet above low water. Levees broke below Callusa flooding thousands of acres as bridges washed away near Marysville Oroville and Red Bluff. Oregon trains detained at Marysville amid rising concern for levee safety and missing bridges.
