South Bend National Bank on North Michigan street was robbed of about 15 900 dollars in cash and gold during broad daylight while employees were at lunch. Four or more professional-looking robbers escaped. A chisel used in the burglary pointed to careful planning. No clues have been found yet. The bank’s vault was entered through a back door and rear window left ajar. The raid occurred as crowds passed outside amid an exposed counting room and glass front. The loss included about 14 000 dollars in paper money and gold, with other cash left untouched.
