Des Moines dispatch reports that federal officers in the Southern district will arrest officers and trustees of the Iowa Soldiers Home at Marshalltown. Charles Wetter a prominent Mason from Winthrop Minnesota collapsed and died during initiatory rites of the Mystic Shrine Zuhrah temple in Minneapolis heart disease was cited. In Grantsburg Wisconsin the St Paul and Duluth railway begins laying $800000 worth of new heavy steel rails on its St Croix river to this point main line next season.

A co operative association forms among Des Moines labor men to start a large general store. R R Clark initiates, about fifty railroad workers subscribe. Plan pays 8 percent stock, year end profits to patrons by purchase amount, invites labor groups, target start Jan 1.
Ey. H. Sothern and his former leading lady Virginia Harned were privately married in Philadelphia. A note denies any France Russia foreign politics pact. Charles Cushman, brother of the late Charlotte Cushman, dies in London at 76. A mare near Warrensburg, Missouri, dropped five male colts none of which survived, with three previous offspring still living.
Army engineers report Chippewa Falls river flood easing with water falling about four inches daily. Ice gorge extends eighteen miles and may keep flood high until spring. Officials note no city danger though the Chippewa Logging and Boom Co. mill faces risks and the wagon bridge could be threatened if ice breaks.
Milwaukee December 4. J Collins general superintendent of the Wisconsin Central reports from the Chippewa Valley flood area. He says the Chippewa bed from Eau Claire to Chippewa Falls is a frozen mess of logs ice and driftwood and will stay until spring. Water runs around the old channel, causing inconvenience but no property damage. Merchants moved goods and no merchandise or buildings were harmed. He believes damage is unlikely and notes water is not three feet higher than in 1894.
A severe sleet and snow storm across the South disrupted telegraphic service and hindered railroad schedules. Observers traced the first effects from Jacksonville to Atlanta, then up the coast toward Norfolk, with some inland reach that damaged telegraph wires and impeded communications nationwide.
A committee representing 85 percent of Colony township taxpayers filed to enjoin the Delaware County treasurer from collecting the special tax approved to fund a Mississippi Colesburg Manchester railway. The plan shifted route to Dyersville linking with Chicago Great Western. The suit cites a notice defect and halts on contracts pending injunction ruling.
