Fatal Tribune fire kills editors and printers in Minneapolis

A historic eight story Minneapolis Tribune building burned on Saturday night. The blaze trapped reporters and editors on the upper floors, with fire escape failures and an elevator shaft chimney intensifying the disaster. The known dead include Milton Pickett James Igor Edward Olson Jerry Jenkinson Robert McCutchen W H Millman.

DIED IN A' FIRE TRAP IN ST. PAUL HOTEL VICTIMS

The Washington hotel on Sibley Street opposite the union depot burned in early Sunday. Italian Lorenzo Lenardi, intoxicated after a dance, was carried to bed and found dead in his room. Switzer John Pulin, about 17, died of smoke suffocation in a neighboring room. In Ohio Lita, John Tugar killed his son Jake, burned the body, then attempted suicide but survived.

Man Runs Through Streets After Enemies in Gallatin

In Gallatin Missouri on December 2 a man named Albert Bright attacked his family with a large butcher knife then stalked the town seeking enemies. He severely cut a farm hand and officer before being shot and captured after a chaotic chase through the streets. The suspect had recently been released from an insane asylum. Meanwhile in Gainesville Texas deputy marshals raided Oklahoma City and captured three Santa Fe train robbers, with ten men and two women under arrest.

Multiple maritime collisions and a mortgage filing at Topeka

The Mersey collision involved the Iowa striking Ligurian and Munin with the Ligurian badly damaged and abandoned by her crew. Ligurian later beached. Munin and the towna also damaged and sent to docks for repairs. Separate reports note a $150 million mortgage filed in Topeka against the Atchison Topeka and Santa Fe railroad and allied lines, with a 5 percent rate and 100 year term, plus a pending reorganization plan.

Judge Denies Mormon Citizenship Claims in Utah

Salt Lake area reports Judge Anderson issued a detailed ruling denying naturalization applications by Mormons who completed endowment house rites. He declares the Mormon church treasonous, its teachings hostile to the U.S. government, and the endowment oath binds members to obedience and revenge against the government and people.

Wreck of Cheseborough Reported After Oct Ocean Rocks

San Francisco dispatch notes the American steamer Cheseborough was wrecked October off Bluchi-Ri-Hatha while en route from China to San Francisco. Nineteen crewmen listed lost with the vessel, which carried sulphur and other cargo. The disaster is described as one of the most violent storms of recent years, causing extensive damage along the coast and claiming several lives.

Nicaragua Canal progress reported by American engineers

Managua advices dated Nov 4 describe canal commissioners led by Jose Antonio Roman and Maximilian Sonnenburg meeting President Sacasa to discuss minor details and report on work by the Nicaragua Canal Company since June 8. They note foundations for a town named America, a twelve mile aqueduct, rail expansion, telegraph lines, river clearing, multiple docks, breakwater piles, and improved sanitary and transport services amid tropical weather. They travel up the San Juan and praise Lake Nicaragua and surrounding terrain.

English Syndicate Buys Ashland County Land Quietly

Reports from Ashland Wisconsin say a large English syndicate has quietly acquired vast acreage across Ashland County and northern Wisconsin. Agents hold options on properties while deeds remain unfiled in the county. register Fenner notes many deeds are in a New York bank awaiting recording after all purchases are completed.

Miners Return to Work as Strike Ends at Brazil Indiana

Brazil Indiana December 2 The Indiana black coal miners strike ended at a mass meeting with 2000 joining to vote it off. The stoppage began May 1 over wages cut from 85 to 70 cents. Desertions and black-legging collapsed the strike. Mines are reopening though demand remains weak and not all strikers secure work.
