Income tax plan confines to corporations and successions
Washington reports that the Ways and Means Committee will limit the income tax to net earnings of corporations and to successions and legacies. Proposals for a broad personal income tax over $5,000 were dropped, with officials arguing corporations bear the main tax burden. A separate path would tax cigarettes and playing cards, while whisky taxes remain unsettled. Minnesota Alliance set for Minneapolis meeting January 7 as prep continues. Congress to withdraw mineral lands in Minnesota
Washington reports that Congressman Baldwin will introduce a bill to extend general Shining laws to Minnesota, withdrawing mineral lands in the northern part of the state from homestead entry to prevent mining grab.
