Sunday April 1 Bushmans Kop reports reveal a Boer ambush during a British convoy attack. Reichman led hidden Boers who seized waterworks and hills, causing a brutal scene with dead horses and scattered carts. Bombardment by B battery followed, with five Boers killed and nine wounded. British casualties were lower than expected.
British observers in Loxpon press doubt on Boer numbers, estimating likely 4 000 to 5 000 at most. Dispatches hint French failures to trap commandoes near Orange River, while Kenhardt is retaken without opposition. Taungs proximity confirmed and Lord Methuen faces growing guerrilla pressure on three sides.

Grand Rapids reelected George R Perry by 1 388. Petoskey voted for two of three wards and the mayor. Hudson Ann Arbor also shifted Democratic. Majorities fell in Big Rapids. Saginaw reelected Mayor Baum. Other cities including Eaton Rapids Hastings Joseph Grand Haven and many others swung Democratic or Republican as noted.
In Dubuque Iowa H Berg Citizens' candidate is reelected mayor by over 2000, carrying the ticket. In Knox County Kansas Beattie town voters elect a male slate over a women run ticket. In Salt Lake City King Democrat wins congressional seat by about 2000 over Hammond with a 750 lead in the city.
