Fraudulent Stranger Targets Brooklyn Stores, Heists 100

A man named AH Barnes, claiming long employment with Hilton Hughes & Co, arrived in Brooklyn and sought to pass a 100 draft by enlisting a bank endorser. He rented quarters, charmed dry goods proprietors, and planned to flee north after banking the money. He wore a brown derby, long frock coat, and had a distinctive pale skin and whiskers. Authorities report the suspect, described as recently released from confinement, is connected to a series of attempts and is believed to have left town on a northbound train after the failed scheme.
