No Chief of Police Missing Woman Porter

Mrs H W Porter of Central Street wandered away during a rainy afternoon. A man and policeman found her about three miles from home on the old road to Heattleboro in a weakened condition after exposure. She was brought home in distress, with $60 in money missing and no words spoken during the ride. The event prompted town officials to consider policing arrangements for the coming year.

Illegal fishing at Wilmington leads to warden chase

Vermont game warden Harry Chase pursued poachers along the private Beloniue streams near Wilmington. A dawn ambush ended with one wounded and two suspects retreating across the Deersfield river. The incident follows years of illegal trout harvesting as club members and officials push to curb the practice.
