Death of Dr James Conland Brattleboro Doctor Dies After Nine Weeks Illness
Dr James Conland aged 62 died at home 8 Walnut street Saturday at 2 am after a nine week illness of organic heart trouble. He leaves a widow and one son. Funeral held at St Michael's Episcopal church with large attendance from Vermont legislature physicians and medical associations. He was a self made man born in Brooklyn Feb 19 1851 and trained at University of Vermont medical college graduating as top honor man. He practiced in Brattleboro with Dr Holton, later leading Democratic state politics, introducing local option bills and guiding passage of the state license law. He was respected for kindness integrity and public service and was active in many organizations. He was honored with roles on the state tuberculosis commission pension examiners and Vermont Sayings Bank founders.
