West River Railroad Ewa Gains on Central Vermont Line
The West River valley railroad facilities on the Central Vermont system improved last summer with a broad gauge track on the branch between Hendilobure and Mandutry. Warmer winter conditions aided operations and lumber tonnage rose. A second passenger train may run in summer, aiding local travel, with timing aligning to the 11 am and afternoon arrivals. A fare cut from five to three cents per mile is expected around May 1.
