Fare is now six cents for Brattleboro street railway

Four story Brockton boiler blast kills many

A boiler explosion at a Brockton shoe factory owned by Grover Co on Monday March 20 caused a large fire that destroyed the factory and seven surrounding buildings. About 400 workers were present. 50 bodies recovered by nightfall. at least 60 injured. Investigators note water supply adequate. cause remains unknown with state inquiry planned. Insurance largely offsets losses estimated near a quarter million dollars.

I W Oakes superintendent of the Windsor state prison resigns due to ill health after urging relief from duties. He asked to appear before the state investigating committee on penal institutions. a Windsor native since 1870, he has served 22 years and is in his retiring year.

Death of Lewis Thomas son of George H Thomas

Lewis Thomas aged 25 died Sunday night after a three week illness with pneumonia. Born December 6 1878 he graduated from Brattboro high in 1899 and ran the family milk business with his brother. A descendant of John Thomas, he joined the First Baptist Church at 16 and remained active in Sunday School and choir. He was noted for his sunny disposition and industry.

Rumor Of Vermont Prison Boss Haigh Appointment Not Confirmed

State Prison Commissioner A E K Cudworth said to the Reformer that Captain Haigh of Trattebam has not been appointed to succeed Superintendent Oakes at Wind sor. Haigh is among several applicants but no decision will be made until full review after the commission meeting next week.
