Public Services Auditorium overflowed for Memorial Day ceremonies led by Col. HL KE Taylor with speaker James Fisk Hooker. The program opened with band music, readings of Gettysburg and Lincoln, and prayers as veterans and youth filled the venue. Memorial Day Exercises At High School Impress Scholars
The annual Memorial Day program at the high school drew a large audience Friday afternoon. Pupils decorated the room with wild flowers potted plants and bunting. Rev L M Keneston of West Brattleboro Congregational church gave the main address with Col H E Taylor speaking for veterans. About 20 Sedgwick post G A R members attended along with several Relief Corps ladies. Students participating included Margaret Barber Ruth McKenney Elwin Whitney Ruth Brown Lucia Gleason Inez Hollender Homer Ellis Ruby Bartlett and Ruth Rogers.

Tragic Drowning In Cambridgeport Brook
James Moore aged 19 of Cambridgeport drowned Saturday afternoon while fishing in a shallow brook on J. Weaver's meadow. He suffered fainting spells and fell face down in about 12 inches of water. his five year old brother Clifton fetched help but too late. Burial followed at his home as Rev. F. D. Goodrich officiated. the Moore family, recently moved from New York, includes a daughter and several other children.

Legislative swindler fined in Windsor court
United States v. Charles E. George alias Earl M. Shannon alias Charles M. Shannon ended with a guilty verdict for fraudulent use of the mails to obtain orders from Vermont legislators for a legislative album. He was fined 200 to be paid by June 16. court adjourned at Brattleboro.

Fire at North River mill devastates Jacksonville village
A large blaze started at the North River Mfg Co mill in Jacksonville Tuesday at 12 30 p m, quickly engulfing the mill and spreading to homes and barns including A C Stetson and D B Collins. Firefighters from Wilmington Readsboro and nearby towns aided, with several injuries reported and total damage around 10 000.
