Memorial Day Observances Highlight Civil War Veterans Presence

Beautiful Memorial Day events drew over 70 veterans in a Brattleboro parade plus formal exercises at the soldiers’ monument the river bridge and Prospect Hill cemetery. A Sunday Catholic service featured Father Carmody and a lengthy patriotism address.

Hinsdale License Hearing Delayed In Concord Session

NH license commission held a Hinsdale petition by Gale & Co for a liquor license in The Island. Hearing postponed at request of Gale’s counsel, F. Woodman, to allow further investigations. Hinsdale officials largely supported granting the license to relieve town debt and fund projects amid tax increases.

Tragic suicide after eight thousand verdict ruling

Angelo Baldusel, who won an $8,000 suit against the James Ramage Paper Company in Rowe Maan, shot himself in his home in Renda boro Friday afternoon. The Brattleboro federal case against the same company ended with a verdict just before adjournment. Baldusel’s death follows weeks of court proceedings and evolving reports from investigators and local counsel.

Death of Brattleboro Businessman Clarence F R Jenne

Clarence F R Jenne a Brattleboro businessman 48 died Wednesday night at his Oak Street home after a week of illness and a pneumonia onset followed by heart failure Funeral services set for 4 pm tomorrow at the First Raptist church with George B Lawson officiating Jenne born in Lee Massachusetts November 10 1856 came to Brattleboro aged eight and built Sherman Jenne Insurance later running the firm alone He held civic roles including Brattleboro Savings Bank director Vermont National Guard and memberships in Masonic bodies Knights Templar Shriners and local civic clubs He married Ida May Sherman in 1880 and survived by wife two children Miss Mary Pauline Jenne and Sherman Austin Jenne and two sisters The deceased was noted for steadfast religious faith public spirit and courteous business dealings.

Vermont Governor delays Rogers execution to June 23

Gov. Bell grants a three week reprieve delaying Mrs Rogers death sentence from June 2 to June 23 after Chief Judge Rowell rejected a writ of error in the Rogers case. The stay aims to allow appeal to federal courts, with Attorney General Fitts advising. Windsor county sheriff received the order yesterday via Charles J. Walter.
