Stolen silver from St Mythedral is being probed as recoveries surface. Windward bound for New York with passengers reports a squall rescue. A Washington to Burlington weather, fires, drownings, and political talks color the day as Roosevelt visit looms.
The Vermont Local Option Convention in Burlington nominated Hon. TP L. Clement of Rutland for governor. The gathering of about 200 delegates approved the ticket with strong support for Clement, while critiques of the McCullough campaign and calls for party reform dominated post meeting remarks.
Brattleboro area supporters packed the Grange hall to back local option and advocate for delegates to Clement’s meeting in Burlington. Officials discussed instructing Windham County delegates to back Clement’s candidacy while balancing party lines and aiming to unify local option advocates under a common platform.
The postmaster general orders rural free delivery participants to install approved mail boxes at the curb by October 1 at their own expense. Boxes must meet department standards and will be protected once approved. One box per household, except for close relatives or cohabiting residents. Unauthorized sales and tampering are criminal offenses under the new law.
Delegates to the State and County Democratic conventions were chosen at calm caucuses held Saturday evening. Nominations were made from the floor and elections by acclamation with little excitement as the party solidified its slate and anticipated the party’s direction.
