Wild automobile ride from Ames hill ends in Springfield
George M. Holbrook of Springfield and three friends rode a touring car down Ames hill at high speed. The car lost brakes, careened across the road, struck water, and forced the occupants to endure violent jostling. They reached Brown's stable and later Springfield, unharmed aside from bruises and nerves. The speedometer allegedly hit 65 mph during the descent.

Horse Thieves Strike Again Near Brattleboro
A three year old black stallion owned by William Being of Chesterfield N H was stolen from M H Chickering on the Spufford lake road Wednesday night. The buggy taken from F C Gales Concord stable on the Island was driven toward Northfield Mass. Sheriff McClure organized a search through Hinsdale Warwick Northfield and Achuelot but the thieves remain at large. The horse is 95 pounds, black with four white feet two white stars and a white back spot. A suspect previously worked at Gilman's stable and tried to sell a watch at Chickering farm. The case may involve the same pair who stole from Vernon. A livery stable in Athol Fitchburg area reported the horse and buggy found but the thieves not yet captured.

After a four day trek from West Canaan to Guilford, youth Raymond Ranney and an older man Frank Morrill pursued odd horse trades and a plan to paint a barn green then red. A $50 bill turned out to be a $20, leading to pursuit, capture, and Ranney’s detention in Brattleboro and Newfane jail with bail set at 150 dollars.
