Vermont Republicans convened in Burlington to nominate party officers and set platform aims. Delegates backed Bacon for state attorney, Phelps and Chase led senatorial bids, and the Brattleboro delegation shaped sheriff and other county posts. The platform urged fiscal reform, tax equity, and reduced public office growth while pledging support for the national ticket.
In Brattlebury Village a special meeting approved by a landslide 342 to 14 a plan for water system arbitration. The measure authorizes the water board to issue bonds up to 125000 for water works funded by city notes, with repayment terms and interest, and seeks legislative approval for broader bonds and quicker market access.
The Mate Troupe will participate in Army maneuvers from August 3 to 15. Company 1 will leave Millerea on Friday morning August 3 for New Landa, then travel by rail to Mt Grotaa via Jersey City. The First Regiment band trains and equipment are noted, with named personnel listed for the march and deployment.
The convention met at Bierlington Wednesday and nominated a full ticket. Lewer W. Hanson of Dares for lieutenant governor, Harmony Ehtred of Sheldon for secretary of state, Altered by Austin of Goirga for state treasurer, Pred J. Page of Barre for attorney general, A. O Ferruson of Bathington for state auditor, and De Narton of Vorgonnes for governor. W. G. Scofield of Kichford was named for Congress from the first district and C. D. Wilwon of Mradford from the second district. The platform supports prohibition of liquor traffic and immediate repeal of the caucus law and machine politics. President Roosevelt administration, popular election of United States, educational suffrage with a wire, and opposition to the Hiwee element are condemned.

A Plymouth to New York special train wrecked near Salisbury England leaving 23 Americans and 4 railway staff dead and many injured. The locomotive derailed on a sharp curve and three coaches were destroyed with fire intensifying the disaster. An inquest at Salisbury yielded a formal verdict. Also noted is G J V Allen of Pale Haven among the injured and Winston Churchill’s political activity in New Hampshire.
