Growth in Brattleboro Industries Signals Strong 1907

Inquiry among Brattleboro’s leading industries shows 1906 ending with prosperity and steady growth. Katey Organ and Carpenter companies report rising orders, expanded plants, and full capacity. home trade up while foreign markets dip slightly. Brattleboro Cabinet and White River Chair firms run at full employment. 1907 expected to be brighter with continued orders and improved sidewalks.

Hearing On Water Bill Before Vermont Municipal Committee

A public hearing in Montpelier on house bill M4 to let Brattleboro procure own and operate a water system drew 20 to 30 residents. Geo E Crowell, attorney General Clarke C Fitts and others spoke as the committee examined amendments and noted missing appeal and damage provisions. The panel showed interest but indicated possible protections for Crowell and potential recommended amendments upon reporting.

Seventeen Less Patients Admitted to the Institution

The Brattleboro Memorial Hospital annual meeting elected George In Dunham president J Irmy Katey secretary Harry Miles treasurer and W H Brackett auditor. The report shows about the same financial condition as last year with the Thompson fund costing roughly 12000 for the year. Eleven patients fewer admitted this year total 200 medical 86 surgical. Deaths numbered ten with five moribund on admission and three incurable. District nurse Florence A McDonald reports 222 cases this year down from 284, 1219 calls up from 2980, and a rise in all night calls. The north district work has become hourly nursing. There was less surgical work overall. patients appreciated care and attempted self-reliance in the nurse’s absence.

Suit Brought By Ex Governor Grout In Burlington

Ex Governor Joniah Grout of Derby, administrator of the late Congressman W W Grout estate, sues Congressman David Foster of Burlington for 5000. The case is returnable at the March term of Orleans County court. A writ has been served against Con greenman Fowter of Burlington including his law books and household furniture as surety for the amount. Grout Grout of Derby Line and Rn W Toit of Burlington are attorneys. The suit seeks repayment of money loaned for campaign expenses.

Montpelier Merchant W. E. Adams Dies at 65

W E Adams oldest Montpelier merchant in continuous service died Monday night from ulcers of the stomach. Born in Woodstock he is survived by three children John T Farrar and Tulia of Montpelier and Charles of Baltimore Md. He was president of the Montpelier board of trade director of the Montpelier National Bank patron of Wo Art gallery president of Wetmore Moree Granite company and longtime member of Colton Manufacturing Company.
