The Vermont Printing Company has purchased all subscription accounts of the Windham County Reformer from Allery and Co. All creditors are pleased with the transfer and anticipate orderly settlement of accounts.
The Brattleboro area reports the sale of Stowell Manufacturing property to George T. Aplin for $19,000. Hank and Stock valued at $95,000. A note for $20,000 signed by local citizens will be paid. Receivers had managed the factory, later rejected by National Novelty Corp, with sale proceeds expected to cover indebtedness.
A meeting at Central church last Monday evening discussed animal cruelty. Mrs Jennie H Powers presented a paper urging protection of animals and attacking wholesale bird slaughter for women’s apparel. Deacon Wilkinson and others spoke as the audience showed strong concern. recital by Miss Clark impressed attendees.
The lecture committee of the Young Men’s Christian Association reveals a varied program for the King Mises season. Suzanne Adame leads a strong chorus with other talents including Lawrence Dup hur and Robert Kent Parker in a Metropolitan Grand Concert. Charily Ladin’s splendid solo work promises a full house, with magician Mare also featured. Advance tickets go on sale Saturday at the association rooms and Peaton’s for $1.40.
The Humane Society notes horses, worn out from service, are sent to country stables where they endure cold, bare stalls and poor feed. Mrs Powers reports on city to country horse welfare, arguing that shifting old work horses from urban comfort to rural barns is inhumane.
Washington civil engineer W F Reed, a U S services mate, visits Brattleboro to discuss damming the Connecticut for water power and growth, while a Let Go Sale by Penton & Co continues next week. Merchandise marks a strong sale as shoppers await payday. local notes include a Providence plant and a 12 foot moon flower stem noted as century plant.
