Brooks Farm Fire Destroys Historic Site Near Fort Dummer

A blaze sparked by a passing locomotive destroyed the Brooks farm buildings near the site of Fort Dummer. George Birch and his family barely saved livestock and furnishings as the fire consumed the barn and outbuildings within about an hour. The family plans to continue farming and market gardening on remaining land. The farm’s history ties to Fort Dummer and the Brooks family, with structures dating to 18th and 19th centuries.

Fail to Agree in Boal Estate Case Disputed by Court

Scarlet fever case reported in town quarantined home

A young son of John I Knowlton is ill with scarlet fever and the Whipple Street house is quarantined. Health Officer H L Waterman investigated and traced the origin to a sporadic case. The High School room where he studied was disinfected thoroughly and no further spread is apprehended.

Man charged with violating quarantine laws in Vermont

Walter M. Ware of Putney was arrested at his home by U S Marshal A Fields for shipping sheet outside the state and arraigned before U S Commissioner James A. Merrill. He waived examination and posted 300 bail for Windsor federal court in May. First such case in the Vicinity since the foot and mouth outbreak in Vermont. Dist Attorney J C Martin of Brattleboro represented the government.

Injured Fireman Crushed On Engine at Palmer Mass

Frank Lafrines was seriously injured Monday night when a shaker slipped while firing a locomotive from New London to Brattleboro. He was thrown into the boiler area, suffering a crushed skull and bruises, and was taken home in distress.

Gen O O Howard spoke on a veteran's opinion. national secretary Robert Weidesslf discussed growth of the revelation. others covered The Work in Vermont and advanced steps. Delegates heard parish and secretarial talks. the meeting approved expanding the state committee to 18 and raising funds for secretary posts. Charles H. More of Mostpetiet was named president for the coming year.
