He toured Indianapolis 500 Time Trials and chose Elwood for its homey atmosphere before lodging limits pressed him. He then attended Unitarian services and stayed at a YMCA while seeking a place to live.

Irish Colleens Visit Windfall Sparks Friendly Exchange
Two 21 year old Irish visitors Arline Thompson and Susan McKee from Belfast stayed four days with Mr and Mrs John Bryan and family in Windfall. They traveled through the Midwest after leaving a tourist group and plan to teach girls athletics in Northern Ireland this fall and finish studies at University of Dublin. They praised Midwestern hospitality and recall a $100 tip earned on Block Island. They hope to return next summer and visit California notes.
