A Windfall Volunteer Fire Department fundraiser announces a newspaper drive on Saturday May 22 to raise funds for building remodels of the fire barn. Residents are urged to save and bag or tie bundles of old papers and deliver them to the fire barn or call 595 3475 for pickup by volunteers.
Two letters written six years apart by Sami Mohammed Theeb recount his Palestinian birth in Haifa and life in Irbid Jordan. He describes schooling, plans to study in Cairo, and his family including five sisters and three brothers. He also notes displacement after the 1967 war and ongoing fear in Kraymeh.
June Foster recalls conversations on rising costs in 1931. Homemakers lament paid 20 cents for a pound of sliced bacon 59 cents for 24 pounds of flour 18 cents per pound for beef roast 8 cents per loaf for bread 23 cents per pound for coffee 5 cents for 5 pounds of sugar 1 cent for a head of lettuce and 39 cents for a broom. The piece notes limited calories concern and mentions a marshmallow recipe.
A Windfall School project presents the Clouser family history of Leo Clouser born 1894 to Ben and Sacha Bell Clouser. It recalls early homesteads near Windfall, schooling, farm life, and family moves to Randolph County and back, plus 13 children, seven sons in the armed forces, and grandparents’ community roles.
