Advice to Young Ladies by Rev Starr at Braddock Street Church

Rev W G Starr delivered two notable sermons at Braddock Street M E Church in Braddock Street. The morning sermon to Valley Female College addressed true womanly character and divine valuation of God given roles. The evening message on respect to age urged reverence for the elderly and parents. The church was filled and music praised. Rev J W Tongue and Rev J L Grant assisted.

Saturday Fights at Savage's Barroom Spur Violence

A two sided melee at Savage's bar with Albert Smallwood Newton Hardy Raymond Shelley and Roger Anderson involved. Hardy was cut and challenged Smallwood in the alley then both rejoined in the bar as crowds surged. Hard injuries led to police action and postponed court dates with bonds set at ten dollars.

Masonic Sermon Plans and Lodge Attendance

At the stated communication of Hiram Lodge A F and A Masons it will be decided if the lodge attends a Masonic sermon in Hagerstown on Sunday June 27 in response to Friendship Lodge invitation. The annual sermon for Hiram Lodge will be delivered in this city on Sunday June 20.

Children’s Day Services At churches Sunday night

Children’s Day services are planned at the U B Church next Sunday evening starting at 8 o’clock with the public invited. An additional program will be held at the Market Street M E Church. A gutter in front of the Friend obit Engine House is being repaired.

The Wrong Men Arrest at Woodstock Depot

Chief of Police Seabright arrested two men on Saturday night on a Baltimore and Ohio freight line on a telegram from Commonwealth's Attorney Baker of Woodstock. Detectives Greer and Chapman later released the suspects after finding they were not the robbers. the men identified themselves as C. B. Crim of Brucetown and Ed. Ranson.

Borne to the Tomb Funeral in Opequon

The funeral of Mrs Rebecca Campbell was held at her home in Opequon at 11 o'clock with Rev. Carter officiating. Remains were interred at Mt Hebron. pall bearers were her six sons. She left thirteen children and fifty nine grandchildren. a longtime London Street Presbyterian member since 1841.

Train Engine Sand-Pipe Slips on B and O Line

The sand-pipe on the engine drawing the excursion train on the Baltimore and Ohio line yesterday came loose and dragged on the rails. The engineer observed it in time to prevent an accident.
