An event by Mrs Jno W Rice and Miss Alice Gibson classes features music recitations tableaux with Miss Nelson Farr recitation solos by Cora Hillyard and Nannie Forsythe Refreshments after the program Admission is 10 cents inviting all to attend for an evening of pleasant entertainment.
At Mrs. Leafe's on West Cork Street the Loyal Temperance Legion met Saturday afternoon and elected Stella Davison as president Mamie Fuller as vice president Carrie Houston as secretary Elmer Hodge as assistant secretary Pansy Leafe as treasurer Annie Leafe as superintendent of the flower mission Lula Barr as superintendent of literature for the quarter.
Saturday night attendance at the Friendship bazaar and oyster supper was immense despite bad weather. Proceeds totaled ninety three dollars with many patrons unable to attend due to the elements. Prizes were awarded including a card set and a dinner service, while gifts were given to Mr Stover Lewis for his kindness toward the ladies. The bazaar will continue tonight to clear remaining items.
The Terpsichorean Club makes its first social appearance this evening in Cameron Hall after weeks of training. Many dancers have achieved dexterity in waltz, schottische, and other figures to present a noteworthy display. Several invited dancers will add to the evening’s pleasure.
Union Band convenes in their hall at o clock Turner Ashby Camp meets in the Camp room at 7 30. Madison Lodge I O O F meets in lodge room at 7 30 o clock.
Dr Granville C Brown a respected Strasburg physician died at his home Saturday night. He was active in Methodist Church circles and leaves a widow and two children Dr Claude Brown and Mrs C F Funk. A cousin Mr A C Brown from the city may attend the funeral set for 2 30 tomorrow afternoon.
This list records unclaimed letters in the Winchester post office for the week ending February 19, 1898. Each letter requires a one cent fee to be paid by the requester.
Helen Jones known as Tab Smith assaulted her mother on North Kent Street yesterday morning. She fled and hid for hours until Officer Hollis found her creeping back home and placed her in jail. She will appear before the magistrate tomorrow to answer for her conduct.
Mrs Driver dies Saturday morning. She was sister to Clinton Maynard of this city and to Mr Thos Maynard of Baltimore and to Dr S S Maynard of Frederick City. She visited Maynard last summer and is survived by three daughters and one son.
Last Saturday afternoon at three o'clock Rev. W. A McKeefry of the Sacred Heart parish presided over the marriage of Mr. D. A. Kelley and Mrs. Clara M. Bishop both of the county. The ceremony in the church rectory was witnessed by Mr. and Mrs. Walter R. Chambers, cousins of the bride.
