Colfelt family turmoil echoes in suicide attempt in Camden
Herbert Colfelt, son of Rev. Laurence M Colfelt and nephew of John W Colfelt, registered at the Aldine Hotel in Philadelphia and tried to drown himself in the Delaware at Fifth Street Wharf Camden New Jersey. He was rescued by two rowers and jailed, saying he had been hounded and hoped to end it all. He claimed to be staying at the Aldine Hotel where his mother once lived. He carried a Christian doctrine catechism and a key to his room. The Colfelt family has a history of turmoil, including a sister in law who attempted suicide in Paris on September 3. The family roots trace to Philadelphia politician James McManus, and Rev Laurence Colfelt previously led churches in Washington Square Philadelphia and Broad and Oxford Streets. ABC left the ministry and publishes a weekly paper at Bedford Springs.
