Winchester voters reaffirmed the no license option in a dry election with 472 votes for no licenses to 277 for licenses, a dry majority of 195. Ward results show First for 147 against 226, Second 130 against 246, total 373 and 763? dry margins with overall turnout 472. Rev Ay M Gluck of Ermimitsburg Md accepted the pastorate of Christ Reformed Church Martinsburg and will assume charge October 15 He succeeds the late Rev Dr John A Hoffheims who served Christ Church for more than 30 years and was well known in Winchester
Bookmakers in Chicago list Woodrow Wilson as the top favorite in the presidential race. Taft is second, Roosevelt third, Debs fourth, and Ohafin fifth, with white colors of the Prohibitionist party noted.
Gen John E Roller of Harrisonburg, Virginia, notified the state Progressive Party committee he will accept as elector at large. Roller, a Taft elector at large in 1908, is hailed by Bull Moose supporters for backing the Progressive movement. The Seventh district elector is Lewis A Zirkle, a Harrisonburg lumber dealer.
The 1912 taxes are due. All taxes not paid by September 30 1912 incur a 3 percent penalty. City Treasurer notes the deadline and penalty.
Friends Sidna Allen and Wesley Edwards nearly escaped as guards at Hillsville jail thwarted a Sunday attempt. A Carroll County inmate, jailed for moonshine liquor, was found with three wooden keys which opened a cell door, prompting a broader search of prisoners.
The Lyman Howe Company arrives from Martinsburg and presents in Winchester tonight the greatest line of moving pictures yet seen here. Howe, famed as a premier showman, brings a top piano performer and promises a unique, entertaining program. Curtain rises at 7:30 p.m.

Delegates at the New York state Republican convention in Saratoga face three main issues including platform disputes and selecting a governor candidate. The showdown centers on Job Hedges versus James W. Wadsworth with attention to campaign direction. The hall was crowded and temporary chairman William D. Guthrie challenged Roosevelt and the Progressive party, drawing jeers.

Mr. Graham G. Lacy of St. Joseph Missouri president of the Saint Joseph and Grand Island Railroad and his family visited his brother Rev Dr J H Lacy pastor of the Presbyterian Church in town a few days ago traveling in a private Pullman car en route to the Shenandoah Valley. They spent time at the Virginia Military Institute where Lacy is an alumnus and passed through Winchester on the way to Canada.
It was virtually decided yesterday that President Taft will issue an executive order placing all fourth class postmasters in the classified service. The move will relieve 36,038 postmasters from political appointment uncertainty and stands as one of the most comprehensive civil service actions by a president.
