Winchester Memorial War Hospital annual report notes debt and new wing

The report outlines a nearly $4,000 debt with more than half from the new building project. It covers 118 patients served in the year and 42 typhoid cases. The hospital added a wing increasing capacity by 20 beds at a total cost of $13,500, funded by $10,734.20 from public subscriptions leaving a $2,765.80 shortfall and total indebtedness of $3,903.40.

Sheepie Carter Dead After Quinsy Illness

Marion Page Carter also known as Sheepie, a 20 year old jockey for local horsemen, died Monday at 434 North Kent Street after illness of quinsy. Survived by widow Edith Carter and sisters Clarissa Carter and Mary Williams. son of Elizabeth Carter. Funeral at Shiloh Baptist Church with burial in Millwood Virginia.

The condition of Mrs Mamie Swartz who swallowed over 21 grains of bichloride of mercury in three tablets at her Wythe Street apartment improved at Memorial Hospital.
